The Busy Life of Our TECSight Team: How We Participate in Field Days, Industry Events and Clinics

Tapping into industry events helps our TECSight team keep their collective finger on the pulse, and delivers great value to the H&P team and our customers. Here’s a little of what they’ve been up to lately.

With the pace of change in the world of ag tech only speeding up, part of our job in keeping our farmers moving is to keep ourselves across industry advancements. As Integrated Solutions Manager Hamish Ross explains, our TECSight team works hard to stay at the forefront of technological change.

“It’s been a busy couple of months for our TECSight team members who has taken part in a range of field days including Henty and AgQuip, other industry events and our own Harvester Clinics and precision ag Mini Clinics. We took part in Precision Ag and Spray Days put on by GRDC and the FastStart™ Cotton Program, hosted by Cotton Seed Distributors and Syngenta.

“The GRDC hosted Precision Ag days were fantastic for us. Along with a range of machinery manufacturers, we toured from Warren all the way down to Griffith and did four events over as many days in September, talking to growers at all stages of their precision ag journey.

“The Cotton Seed Distributor days in Bellata, Spring Ridge, Warren and Conargo were also really interesting and well received. We had some good conversations around planning for planting, ensuring your machine’s ready and collating data correctly.

” As well as presenting at industry events, members of the Field Services team and the Remote Support team headed to Brisbane for John Deere-run X9 combine training. A real game changer in broadacre small grains harvesting, the X9 is the latest machine to hit the salesroom floor and ensuring everyone is ready to support those machines rolling out is vital.

“It’s been a while since we’ve done face-to-face training thanks to COVID, so there’s plenty of value in getting the guys up to this training, especially for the Remote Support team who really appreciate the chance to touch and feel the machines.” While the rainfall may have slowed down calls to the Remote Support team, Hamish said they have still had plenty to do. “The team has been looking at connectivity and making follow-up calls to customers of machines that haven’t yet had the full John Deere Operations Center setup done.

“We’ve also been looking at optimising product installs to third party machines, like rate controllers on sprayers and seeders and streamlining the process to better harness technology. And we’ve been able to access a few more protein analyzers for combines, which has been fantastic considering the global shortage still impacting some componentry, so we’ve been out installing them and getting them ready for harvest.”

OPERATIONS CENTER CHANGES

While we encourage everyone to use Work Planner for both cotton planting and winter crop harvest, we also recommend you look at the following changes to Operations Center:

  • Field Analyzer post calibration: Field Analyzer provides automated and manual tools to help analyse the factors influencing yield. Now, if there are glaring yield differences between machines or the one machine in different fields, you can post calibrate to adjust the production totals by field based on total yield, wet weight, or moisture making the data in Op Centre more accurate.
  • Data sharing: You can now easily export data as a shapefile, giving growers the ability to share more information with their trusted advisors and make better, data-driven decisions. All data can be exported, with the exception of work notes and Harvest ID cotton.
  • Improved mobile experience: Historically, only a small number of ‘layers’ were available on a phone for harvest passes while the full 16 were available on computer. Now, growers can pull up an equipment layer on their phones to see multiple machines running at any one time and any glaringly obvious losses, which means seeing issues and optimising machines faster. Work notes are now also able to be viewed on mobile phones.

The entire TECSight team is geared up for what looks to be a challenging time ahead. Hamish assures customers that when those harvest windows present, the team is on deck ready to offer support.

“One thing to remember is a pre-season check to ensure all your receiver and display software is up to date because that can fix some of the bugs from previous years and ensure the machine is running tiptop technology.

“The other thing people often forget is to make sure data is sending up correctly. We see it time and again that an operator hasn’t ticked a box on the screen and all of a sudden there’s no data showing what the machine’s doing. If you have Gen4 displays, focus on Work Planner. You can also use it to a certain extent with a 2630.

“Most importantly, remember we’re here to support you throughout harvest, whatever you need.”
