Local Hillston farmer, Jack Fensom, set the standard for paddock proposals, writing the big question into his paddock with the support of H&P’s Precision Ag team.
With the help of Hutcheon & Pearce’s Precision Ag team, local Hillston farmer, Jack Fensom, orchestrated the ultimate paddock proposal in true farmer style. Jack used his tractor to plough the big question, ‘Will you marry me?’, into a paddock on his family farm. He then took his partner on a flyover of the paddock, ring in hand, and of course, she said yes!
Jack Fensom, alongside his brother, operates a long-standing
mixed enterprise family farm, Karalee Farming, just outside
Hillston, NSW. The Fensom’s cultivate a variety of high-
yielding crops, including cotton and hemp, and are making
industry-leading strides in the hemp sector.
Jack and his fiancée, Mia, had been together for over nine
years when Jack decided it was time to pop the question. He
reached out to our TECSight team in late June to share his
grand plan and see if we could assist. Excited by the idea,
the team knew this was a perfect task for our Precision Ag
Specialist, Sam Hamilton.
Sam began by sketching rough drafts of the track and then
collaborated with Thomas Dewhurst, Corporate Account Sales
Manager, who meticulously finalised the neat boundaries for
the letters. Using the Operations Centre, Sam created precise
guidelines within these boundaries for a two-width speed
tiller to follow, ensuring the message was perfectly executed
It took Sam and Thomas about an hour and a half to get everything set up and they were determined to make sure
everything was perfect. Using Jack’s John Deere GreenStar GPS, they configured the track in Jack’s tractor, so everything was ready for him to follow. On the 4th of July, with his John Deere 8345R, Jack utilised AutoTrac to follow the guidelines and write his message into the ground, all while on the phone with Sam, who guided him through the process. Using Operations Centre, Sam was able to see everything Jack was doing in live time and was therefore, able to accurately guide him- and calm his nerves!
“It only took us over an hour to get through the track. Jack was pretty nervous it wouldn’t turn out well, but once he used his drone to check, he was amazed at how neat it looked. I told him, ‘You’ve just got to trust the process!’” Sam said.

Jack and his now fiancée got their plane licenses together around 9 years ago and go flying every Saturday morning, so this added touch to the proposal made it the perfect plan. Flying over the perfectly written proposal the following day, Mia, obviously said yes.
“Mia’s been waiting 9 years and 1 child in. I thought I better
do something special with another baby on the way. The
process was made really easy with the support of H&P and
the Griffith Aero Club. I could not have done it without them,” Jack said.
The ever-growing advances and updates of our technology
make projects like this possible. Precision Ag is being used
across all areas of agriculture to improve efficiency and
accuracy and give farmers an advantage that equates to
