As we move past another busy summer harvest and winter cropping seasons, Integrated Solutions Manager Hamish Ross provides a recap of the season and offers some insights into the arrival of GUSS and changes to SFRTK.
↓ A Successful Harvest Season
This past summer, we experienced a busy harvest across our region, and our TECSight team showcased remarkable dedication, working tirelessly to ensure seamless operations and data accuracy. The TECSight team, led by Toby Pitt, managed an impressive 6,550 calls, addressing various issues and ensuring that our customers had the support they needed. This support has continued into the summer crop harvest with plenty of sorghum, rice, corn and cotton.
Meanwhile, the TFS (Technical Field Support) team, under the leadership of Glen Montgomery, conducted around 200 on-farm optimisation visits from the start of harvest, predominantly focused on seeder delivery for winter crop planting and cotton harvesters. These visits were crucial in helping farmers optimise their equipment and processes, leading to increased efficiency and productivity.
↓ Cotton Clinics
Our TECSight Field Specialists and Precision Agriculture (PA) teams recently completed a series of three Cotton Clinics, held in Wee Waa, Warren and Griffith, aimed at preparing farmers for the cotton harvest and upskilling branch staff. These pre-cotton harvest data setup workshops were designed to ensure that the machines and John Deere Operations Centre were set up accurately, enabling precise data collection during harvest and efficient operation. These clinics are part of our ongoing commitment to providing our customers with the latest tools and knowledge to maximise their harvest potential. We used the opportunity to upskill some of the branch staff either side of the customer clinic days. The team emphasised the importance of accurate data collection especially during cotton pick given the importance of getting precise data for the cotton gin.
↓ GUSS has landed on our shores
H&P took delivery of 6 GUSS (global unmanned spraying system), the first Australian John Deere dealership to do so. The six were shipped from California by container into Coleambally. Hamish Ross was first to lay eyes on the exciting delivery exclaiming that “after 8 months of logistics and waiting, it is amazing to finally see them in branch. We are super excited to be the first Australian John Deere dealer with GUSS. We look forward to growing our high value crop engagement with this exciting addition to our portfolio.” If customers are interested in receiving a quote or more information on GUSS, reach out to your local branch. H&P staff have undertaken extensive training to ensure that we can support all aspects of the sale, delivery and after sale support.
↓ SFRTK
In our last autumn 2024 edition of the HP magazine, we covered SFRTK. In the meantime there has been an exciting release which will enable our customers to convert their guidance tracks between correction modes. What this means for our customers is greater flexibility to keep their guidance tracks and upgrade to the latest Starfire technology with no requirement to be connected to a radio base station. This isn’t to say that we are changing anything about our base station network, it is here to stay.
However, it is most likely that moving forward to the latest advancements in technology, you will require the most up to date hardware. An example of this might be autonomous tractors. Hamish has his eyes on upcoming announcements. “This is a massive “watch this space” as we don’t know what this looks like as yet. It’s exciting to think what will be next as we move forward. Every year we see more operator tasks automated or streamlined for efficiencies and operator fatigue.”
