Hutcheon & Pearce attended its first-ever AgQuip and it did not disappoint.
Having been cancelled two years in a row due to COVID, AgQuip was back with a vengeance with more than 3000 exhibitors and close to 100,000 people turning out for the Gunnedah event – Australia’s biggest agricultural field days.
One of Hutcheon & Pearce’s newest team members, Gunnedah Sales Representative Ralph Scott has been to AgQuip for 25 years or more and while he thinks the crowd may have been down slightly on pre-COVID numbers, they more than made up for it in positivity.
“You see a lot of people; some you only ever see at AgQuip. I think the drawcard is that it’s a giant viewing platform. It doesn’t matter what colour the machine is, you can see four, five or six different manufacturers all in the one place.
“We had a lot of interest this year with the X9 header and the RX series of John Deere tractors on display. People like to see what they’re buying in the flesh. If anyone has bought large Ag equipment between 2019 and now, they’ve had to come into a dealership or travel to take a look, so having a wide selection like we had at AgQuip – from combine harvesters to the articulated 9000 series right down to the compact 1 Series, lawnmowers and gators – allows people to see what they’re buying.”
Ralph was part of 37 Hutcheon & Pearce team on site for the three-day event, the biggest dealer representation he’s seen.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t have a decent look around AgQuip as I’m too busy talking to people. I think on the first day I did over 10 kilometres walking the woodchips on site!
“This year, we had well over double the number of staff we normally have there, and the amount of stock was very positive – no small thing with the availability of Ag stock at the moment being so limited. We got a lot of positive feedback. I think people were impressed.”
For Sales & Marketing Manager Andrew Watt, it was his first experience of AgQuip and one that left a great first impression.
“We had around 30-40mls of rain during bump-in, which made setting up a challenge, but we ended up with a really nice site after a huge team effort. The organisers were great to deal with and helped us out, and we also helped them with the loan of some gators for set up and sponsored the lucky door prize for the entire field days – a S100 John Deere mower.
“We were blessed with the largest site at the field days and attracted lots of attention from customers and the media, especially with the focus on the X9 harvester. On the first day, we had around 200 customers on site by mid-morning, which was amazing to see, and we had our highest-ever sale of merchandise and toys of any field day, surpassing any records previous set at Henty.
“Overall, we had a lot of great feedback, and the volume of inquiry was good. We were able to help customers with orders and finalising deals and we also had some fathers come in with their sons to order their first tractor, which is a bit of a tradition at AgQuip.
