When we find a staff member who loves nothing more than to help our customers, we stick to them like hot asphalt on Blundstones! That’s how it is with Andrew Haenig, who’s just wrapped up his Automotive Sales traineeship.

When you talk to Andrew Haenig, it’s clear that he loves helping people out.

Originally from Tumbarumba, Andrew has been a valued member of the H&P team for three years.

“I grew up in Tumba and went out to Yanco Ag for my high schooling. I went from Yanco to a farm to do harvest in 2015. Then went from there to do my Cert IV in Ag on a property just out of Book Book. I pretty much came to Hutchies from there.”

Andrew started in a rotating role between parts and the workshop, but he was needed in the spare parts department pretty much full-time from the get-go. As a result, he can probably rattle off more part numbers than you could poke a stick at.

“Coming into the department, I thought it was quite an interesting part of the operation and one I didn’t know much about. Once I started doing it, I could see the enormity of the spare parts side of the business, and it really intrigued me. Each day was never the same and I sort of just wanted to get better at it.”

Always keen to learn new things, Andrew decided to tackle his Certificate III in Automotive Sales.

“It’s always handy to have those bits of paper under your belt, I reckon.

“It gave us the background on why things are done the way they are and hints and tips to do the job better.

“The theory was like homework, in a way. We’d work Monday to Friday and then our TAFE teacher would come around once every couple of months, or earlier if we had our assessments done, to check in.”

When asked about his favourite part of the traineeship, Andrew can’t pinpoint just one factor.

“Just everything, every day. Every day you’re talking to customers and trying to make it as easy as you can for them. You’d know yourself, if you go into a shop and you’re struggling to find what you want, so you ask for help. When it’s a nice smooth transaction, you leave the place feeling a better than when you went in, and that’s what I try to do every day, to make it as smooth for the customer as possible.”

Throughout it all, Andrew felt supported by the team at H&P.

“Nothing was ever a hassle for anyone, especially the Wagga parts team. I’m lucky that I’ve got a wealth of knowledge behind me in the spare parts side of things. Both Les and Rocket, they’re the best. If I knew half the things that they know, I reckon I’d still be pretty smart!
“The support from within the Hutcheon & Pearce network is amazing. There’s never a question that can’t be answered. Whether it’s within the Wagga Branch or sending it out to other branches, there’s a wealth of knowledge.

“And you’re always encouraged to ask. Rocket always says, ‘The only silly question is the one you don’t ask’.”

Since completing his Cert III, Andrew has made the switch to Small Ag and Turf Sales which includes sub-100hp tractors, gators and mowers.
“In the new role, once again, it’s all about customer satisfaction now. And that’s where the real job satisfaction is for me.

“I guess I’m the type of bloke that really likes seeing people happy, and nothing beats the smile that you see on peoples’ faces when they have the first spin on their tractor, or first spin around on their mower. It’s priceless!”
